Blogging about Bloggers Day- Matthew Savoca

I decided to interview Matthew. Here it is. Matthew seems very laid back. I like his writing a lot too. There is a link to his blog at the bottom of the interview. Go check it out and you can find links to his work.

*I know you live in Italy. Which is awesome. I've traveled there and have loved it. What part do you live in? Ever been to the states?

i have been living in rome for the last fifteen months or so. i have never been to the states. just kidding. i grew up in philadelphia.

*How often do you shower a week?

i shower maybe like 2 or 3 times a week. but they have bidets in italy.

*Brandon Gorrell talks about hair care. How do you treat your hair? I know I hardly wash mine anymore.

i do exactly what brandon scott gorrell does, except sometimes i get my hair wet.

*Are you the type of person who takes chances or lingers in their own comfortability. Like, if you were walking around the streets and you saw an attractive man/woman eating your favorite food, what would you do?

i would not do anything. so i don't know if that means i take chances or not. i think if we are talking about people or relationships with people or just seeing people on the street, i do not 'take chances.' but with other things i 'take chances.' like i moved to italy, which was not an extremely comfortable thing to do. so, i don't know. i do both things.

*What is your process of writing? From what I've seen you seem to write with extreme detachment. How does this way of thinking affect the people you know?

i don't know. i think i just write sometimes when i feel like writing. i do not do that thing that some people do where they have a certain number of hours that are 'dedicated to writing' and even if they don't write anything they just sit there and stare at the computer screen for like two hours. i mean, i stare blankly at computer screens for lots of hours, but i don't have any 'dedicated to writing' hours. or whatever.
my detached world view helps me to live a real life. because i think what i really want is just to live an imaginary life. where i don't ever actually do anything, i just think about things that would be fun or good or whatever to do and then i feel excitement at the thoughts, and i enjoy the thoughts, and also thinking about how the things i am thinking of could be done, but also i know that i won't ever actually do them, because i live an imaginary life.
so basically, detachment helps me do things, necessary things, that regular people can easily do.
i don't know how this affects people i know. i mean, well, basically i moved to italy last summer and i only know one person, who is my significant other. so i guess you would have to ask her how my detached world view affects her. as i was typing that last sentence, i realized that she would probably say that my detached world view 'injects' a little bit too much sarcasm into her life.

*Where do you find motivation for writing or creating something new? Do you usually let things build up and spill out or do you spend time on a certain idea and work on it until it's complete?

well, i think i mostly write about how i feel and things that happen to me or things that i do. so i guess i just try to explain how i feel or what thing happened. i don't do either of those things you said. i think that i just do whatever. i don't know, this answer is pretty weak. i'm sorry

*if you were to take me to your favorite 3 places in Rome thus far, where would they be, why

i don't know. i don't really like rome a lot. there is a cemetery i like. it is for non catholics.

*tell me what you think of tao lins blog. not the most recent stuff. the early stuff. the stuff that 'has shaped a lot of literary writing". i find some similarities in your work. not his actual published writing. but the writing on his blog.

i don't read tao lin's blog very often. i fully support tao lin's life and art.

*im sitting in the back of my place of work hungover and listening to bad rap/love songs. i can't turn off the radio. what would you do if this was you?

i don't know. i haven't had a job in like four years. but i would sing along and maybe even dance like there was no one watching.

*you spoke of sarcasm with your girlfriend and how you add more of it into her life. do you think as men get older and more detached they can only see the world as 'sarcastic' and women think 'more concrete' when it comes to 'reality'? does this make any sense?

i don't think that this is true. but i don't think that it is not true either. that is only because i do not really have an opinion on this. i am not able to think about it.

*how often do your moods change a day?

my moods change a lot.

*what can you not do without? besides your gf.and your penis.and books.

there is nothing i can not do without. also, my 'gf.' is actually my wife. weird.

I dunno. That was the interview. I didn't like my questions.
